We believe both organisations we work with and members of the public will benefit from our activities.

Organisations we work with will gain more knowledge and skills on how to work with open data (as well as any other data) and how they can use it and share it in innovative ways online

The innovative web projects (web documentaries, features, interactives, web applications) created by HEI-DA in partnership with these organisations will help support their mission and raise public awareness in the topics that matter to them

The open data movement will spread further and gain greater scope

Members of the public as well as media professionals will get to learn about new trends and skills in the niche field of data journalism, open data and web innovation

The Data Journalism Blog will thrive to inspire young people to make a career in the field of data journalism and web innovation by providing them with tips and knowledge on how to create innovative projects on the web

Research on data journalism, practical use of open data in web interactive projects and innovative storytelling will be done and results shared across the community

Members of our community will get to be part of a network of organisations and partners which gathers at HEI-DA’s events (conferences, training, hackathons and networking meetups) to discuss challenges they face when working online. In that context, HEI-DA will bring open data projects expertise from the news industry to NGOs and other nonprofits organisations creating a place for discussion between two industries which rarely work together

NGOs, nonprofits, public bodies and media professionals will get training on how to use new digital tools and storytelling technologies

A Way to See Things You Might Not Otherwise See

Some stories can only be understood and explained through analyzing — and sometimes visualizing — the data.
